I prodotti di LEAPfactory sono tutti prefabbricati, concepiti per “abitare ad impatto zero” i luoghi naturali sensibili e da proteggere; adatti anche per tutte le aree prive di accessibiltà stradale, oppure dove è opportuno evitare la fase di un cantiere tradizionale e la manomissione temporanea del suolo. “Doppio gioco” (Double game): an adjective and a noun. If you analyse each word separately they have a very precise meaning but if you put them aside the analysis becomes less certain, almost ambiguous. At a first glance, it suggests a wilful deception or, in a broad sense, a game played by two.
Both solutions apply perfectly to the way in which Giovanni Gastel and Toni Thorimbert conceived the exhibition’s visual proposal. At a distance, they played a game of two, reflecting upon each other’s portfolio and photographic experiences carried out and nurtured during the years.
They secretly realized a double game by using the fashion’s world to create creative exercises that find their origin in other areas. Specifically they borrowed and blended languages and grammars and they inflected the genre’s syntax, in an improper and inappropriate way. They used cross references, fusion, irony and appeal.
They kept themselves on the verge of the allowable, contaminating the possible with the impossible, good taste with bad one, classicism with the baroque. In an exercise in which the borders are not the extreme limit but the starting point and the beginning of a new creative process, they aimed to transform their work in game, achieving their goal. Rome’s importance in the 1970s may be attributed largely to the lively activity of the galleries and cultural associations that played such a crucial role in promoting and hosting contemporary Italian and international art: Fabio Sargentini’s “L’Attico”, Plino De Martiis’ “La Tartaruga”, Gian Tommaso Liverani’s “La Salita”, the International Art Encounters founded in 1970 by Graziella Lonardi Buontempo and chaired by Achille Bonito Oliva, Gian Lorenzo Sperone and Konrad Fischer, Massimo D’Alessandro and Ugo Ferranti, and many others besides. To this list of galleries and cultural associations we may add the activities of the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna and of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni itself, as well as the work performed towards the end of the decade in venues “self-managed” either by the artists in person – Gap, Jartrakor, La Stanza, S. Agata dei Goti and Lavatoio Contumaciale – or by such feminist groups as the Cooperativa del Beato Angelico. These players and institutions gave the city a frenzied programme of exhibitions, performances and debates in a rapid succession of events that allowed artists to immediately verify the impact of their work on the general public, and that turned the city into one of the world’s leading centres of contemporary art. But the importance of art in Rome in the ‘seventies was due first and foremost to an exceptional string of artists, many of them from Rome itself, many others from outside the city but who chose to reside in the city and numerous foreigners who lived, and showed their work, in Rome throughout the decade. Their work, the undisputed star of this exhibition, was all either produced or shown in Rome in the ‘seventies. Rome is the only European city to host for the first time an exhibition of the masterpieces of the Impressionist and Post Impressionist collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Towards the end of the 19220s, the American banker, businessman, industrialist, Andrew W. Mellon, started what would become one of the most important art collections in the world, with the ambition to embrace the best of European art from the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century. After his death in 1937, his offspring (Paul and Ailsa) carried on his legacy, cultivating the same passion of his father, enriching what is now known as the Mellon Collection, which is kept as a result of a donation, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Osvaldo Licini is the genius loci of Monte Vidon Corrado and his house, of imminent opening to the public after the restoration intervention, preserves in the furnishings, in the objects and in the clothes, which belonged to the artist, the intensity of a strong, deep life, voluntarily spent between those walls that overlook the winding hilly landscape dominated by an immense portion of sky.
The 18th century country house is structured on three levels: extremely suggestive is the wine cellar, where it is believed Licini held political meetings; on the second level there is the living area that also includes a large room where he kept his works; the kitchen, as well as the upstairs bathroom have, in the furnishings and in the organization of space, a highly modern character, probably dictated by the northern tastes of Nanny, the Swedish consort, also a painter.
Going up the stairs is like making a sort of “climb to the skies”: raising our gaze, towards the ceiling, we can admire the mural painting created by Licini in the early 1940s on the cold shades of blue and grey, in which sinuous lines evoke astral trajectories in a selenic space. On the third level there is the sleeping area and the Study with the easels, the paints, the desk encrusted with chromatic mixtures.
It is the most luminous floor, where many windows open onto the hilly landscape: looking out further through the glass, it is easy to recognize glimpses projected in the paintings. The bedroom is in a constructivist style, on the wall where the bed stands, there is an “archipittura” played out onto a white, triangular module, profiled in orange on a black background. These, preserved in the house, are the only wall paintings done by Licini.Monte Vidon Corrado, Fermo (Marche)
